When we think of sightseeing, we often “see” the scenery or “walk” through the city. In Narita, you can imagine experiences such as eating eels or wearing a kimono.
But few of you have had the experience of “painting” during your travels, haven't you? Try to draw what you felt on your trip with your own hands. We would like to introduce you to an atelier where you can have the wonderful experience of leaving your travel footprints in a painting.
Brune Studio, an atelier located in a quiet area of Urasando
The atelier is located on Shin-michi Street, also known as Urasando. It is a street with a quiet and warm atmosphere, different from the Naritasan Omotesando, which is crowded with tourists.
In one corner of the building, there is a store that houses a vintage clothing store and a coffee shop in the same building. Walking down the passageway in front of the building and up the stairs, you will find a quaint atelier.
The artist Yoka Onuma provides the art experience at this atelier, Brune Studio.
Of course, Onuma-san's art is wonderful, but here you can not only “have it drawn” but also experience “drawing” by yourself.
A wide variety of art materials are spread out before you, from those you may have touched in elementary school to those you have never seen before.
Encountering such art materials may also be an opportunity to find new expression in yourself.
The drawing experience begins with a lesson on how to use these materials. The experience is not so much about learning as it is about receiving hints for expression, such as "this is one way you can use these materials.
What kind of picture shall I draw? said one participant, who looked a little puzzled in front of a white sheet of paper.
At that time, Onuma-san advised us, "It is a good idea to first pick up an art material that interests you and start drawing." As if encouraged by her words, the participant began to move their brushes boldly. As the lines and colors overlapped, their expressions gradually softened and the atmosphere became joyful. It was impressive to see them feeling at ease as they painted.
In this experience, four drawing works were completed in about one hour!
Of course, you can take your paintings home with you.
It would be great to display it in your room as a memory of your trip or send it to someone as a postcard.
After the drawing experience, you can visit the nearby Naritasan Shinshoji Temple, or tour the cafes and small stores along Shin-michi. You can also enjoy a quiet stroll through the city, a perfect way to unwind after a day of art.
Let's try to leave behind the unspoken emotions of the trip in colors and lines. Why don't you spend such time in a quiet street corner in Narita?
Onuma-san is also fluent in English, so please feel free to experience it if you are from overseas!
Please check Brune Studio's Instagram for more information on dates and prices of the experience.
